How to read a Quest Diagnostics blood test report
Quest Diagnostics results reach you as a PDF lab report, or through the MyQuest app and website. Both show the same results in different layouts.
The lab report (PDF)
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Test Name | The test, often in capitals, e.g. “TESTOSTERONE, TOTAL, MS” (measured by mass spectrometry). |
| In Range | Your result when it is within the reference range. |
| Out Of Range | Your result when it is outside the range, with a flag: H (high) or L (low). |
| Reference Range | Quest's range for that test and unit. “<200” means below 200; “> OR = 60” means 60 or more. |
| Lab | A code for the laboratory that performed the test, listed at the end of the report. |
- Collected in the header is the date your blood was drawn.
- (calc) next to a result or range means the value is calculated from other tests (for example globulin or the albumin/globulin ratio).
- Notes under some tests explain the result, the method, or a fasting requirement.
MyQuest printouts
Printing results from MyQuest gives one block per test: the result, its Reference Range, and a small chart of your earlier Quest results (“From … To …” gives the period shown). Two things to know:
- A test marked IN PROGRESS has no result yet. A number shown under it is usually an earlier result from the chart, not today's.
- “Reference range varies across results” means the range changed over the period shown.
Keeping track over time
MyQuest charts only show Quest results. UnitedMarkers lets you import Quest reports and printouts next to your Labcorp and other results, and keeps each lab's own reference range.
